WOLF MANOR
Dir. Dominic Brunt | United Kingdom | 2022 | 95 mins
Shooting a horror film at a remote country estate should have been a walk in the park, but for the crew of ‘Crimson Manor’ the pressures of low-budget filmmaking are a constant uphill struggle. With production running a day late and the crew working through the night to get the film in the can, the fortunes of the low-budget vampire flick rest upon the shoulders of veteran actor Oliver Lawrence, a fading star of old-school horror films whose reputation is propped up by overarching pretentiousness and a reliance on booze. Problems with continuity and chaotic schedules are soon eclipsed by the presence of a vicious werewolf roaming the grounds and as body parts begin to stack up, the remaining crew members must band together to survive the night.
This latest horror comedy from director Dominic Brunt (Before Dawn, Attack of the Adult Babies) is a thoroughly entertaining meta monster movie, taking knowing swipes at indie film production tropes that will be familiar to anyone who’s spent any time on a low budget film set, along with a wealth of affectionate nods to classic werewolf movies and British horror of old.
We are delighted to welcome director Dominic Brunt and prosthetics/special effects makeup artist Shaune Harrison to Celluloid Screams to introduce the film and take part in a Q&A after the film.
