TRAIN TO BUSAN PRESENTS: PENINSULA
Directed by Sang-ho Yeon | South Korea | 2020 | 1 hr 54 mins
Four years after the events of the breakout zombie smash hit TRAIN TO BUSAN, director Yeon Sang-ho is back with PENINSULA, a new stand-alone chapter in the South Korean zombie saga. Jung-seok (Gang Dong-won), a soldier and survivor of the zombie outbreak, lives among other refugees in the relative safety of Hong Kong. When he is tasked to lead a covert mission back into the zombie-infested wasteland of the Korean peninsula to retrieve a truck laden with cash, he is forced to once again experience the nightmare that he escaped previously. As they attempt to complete the mission with their lives intact, things go awry when Jung-seok and his team encounter a rogue militia group and a family of survivors. Stranded in the devastated city, they are forced into a fight for survival where humans are as much of a threat as the zombies that still roam the streets.
While TRAIN TO BUSAN focused on the origins and spread of the zombie plague, PENINSULA is a far more action-oriented affair, with a succession of gunfights and break-neck car chases. While the zombies are still an ever-present threat, the human survivors who also inhabit the dilapidated city of Incheon are, in some cases, just as deadly in their ruthless pursuit to desperately protect what little they have.
